Beader's Showcase

"A Place for all Beaders to Showcase their Creations."

I have granddaughters and would love to make them necklaces & braclets with plastic beads. I believe that using elasitc thread would be the best for this but I'm not sure what would be the best way to fasten it. I have read a knot and a dob of glue. Can anyone help me or give me a better surggestion. I'm open too what ever. My granddaughters are 4 and 2 years.
Here are pic's of them, they both love pink lol

I used to use a dot of super glue, but now I just use a dot of clear nail polish. Super glue can get brittle, and possibly lead to breakage. The nail polish is more flexible and is much easier to use when little kids are involved. I haven't had anything break using the nail polish.

Whoops...I should clarify that I first tie a square knot before applying the nail polish. :)

Thanks Susan that's a great tip. I will go and buy myself some clear nail polish.

thats what I do...the glue has to be the kind that does not eat through the plastic, nail polish sounds great, I will try that next time

I use a surgeon's knot and use E6000 glue on top of that. IF the bracelet allows, I also try to pull the glued-knot into a large holed bead while the glue is still tacky. This helps to hide the knot and ensure coverage from the elements.

I agree...I have found the way you do it to work the best. GS Hypo Cement glue works well also and has a very fine applicator tip. Just don't let it get clogged up.

I've written a tutorial on making basic bracelets (or necklaces) with stretch cord. It explains how to get those knots right down to the beadwork for a seamless finish. I hope it helps you! Good luck with your projects. I can't wait until my little one is old enough to do beading with me.

Is this a knot that is tied like when you tie a knot in an inflated baloon? Then you take the needle and slide the knot down to the beads? I am visualizing that both strings are done in a knot at one time, like when you make an overhand knot. Is this correct? If so, I would never thought of doing it that way. Do you get better tension? Thanks.

I've done quite a bit of work with elastic fishing line....I tie it off with about 3 half hitches and then I use clear nail polish on the knot. I try to put a bead with a big enough hole beside the knot and pull the knot through that bead...so the polish and knot are inside the bead when they dry....Worked really well for me and I've even used these as hair ties...........Hope this help...Happy beadn................
