Beader's Showcase

"A Place for all Beaders to Showcase their Creations."

The new About.com Beadwork channel went live today! I'm so excited!

The site is a little sparse right now, but I've got some great articles and projects ready for the coming weeks. Please check it out!

And also, I am looking for people to send me photos to include in the photo galleries as well as suggestions for projects and techniques to be covered. I want to make the site as useful and fun as possible, so please let me know what you want to see!

Thanks so much to MeganG for alerting me to the opportunity back in January!

Wow! Congratulations! That IS exciting. What are your goals for the site? I'll plug you on my blog.

I think it would be awesome if you did a Q&A Column so that people can write in with questions and you supply the answers (where can I find X? What is Y? How do I bead when my toddler wants to eat my beads? etc).

Product reviews would be really helpful. Do you Really need a gadget? What brands/models work best (love the Slate version, ex: http://www.slate.com/id/2171781/)?

How to treat tools or supplies for certian types of work (like filing edges of pliers for wire workers/chain mailers, or using the rubbery coating you can dip on). What are the benefits/drawbacks to certian types of materials - like compare/contrast different stringing materials.

Congrats again!

Megan, those are great suggestions! I already have lots of product and book reviews lined up and ready to go, and I will definitely do an article on how to treat tools. Thanks for the ideas!

My goals for the site are to make it engaging, informative and fun for both the beginning and advanced beader. I want to have a good mix of projects and articles - enough to get the beginner interested and feeling confident about their skills, and some advanced projects to provide a little bit of a challenge.

And as for the "how do I bead when my toddler wants to eat my beads?" question, I'm still trying to figure that one out. I will definitely write an article about that when I figure it out, LOL! (Unless someone out there has some ideas for me!)

Thanks for the link to Slate - those are great formats.

Love this site!!! As for the toddler bit---I got my daughter her own "Beads". You can look at ToysRUs in the preschool section for snap together beads--she then progressed to the craftfoam ones. They have their beads, you get yours!!!! LOL

That's a great idea! My 17-month old loves to play with my stash of vintage Lucite - there are lots of HUGE beads in there that he couldn't possibly get into his mouth, and he loves the noise they make when he whacks them together. LOL!

If you can edit content from previous guides, there are some basic instructions - like the basic peyote stitch instructions (http://beadwork.about.com/cs/beadshowtos/ht/flatpeyoteeven.htm) that could really benefit from having photos or illustrations. Especially for beginners, as the sample page is intended, no pictures seems crazy to me.

Yeah, being able to edit content from the previous Guide would have been good, but I can't do it. It's odd - the old content still shows up in search results, but it doesn't show up when you look for it on the site. So I've started creating brand-new content, including the stitch tutorials, but this time with photos!

Jennifer!! So happy to know that Beadwork @ About is BACK! I've missed it, and can't wait to see what you do with it. Good luck!
