Hi, AnnMarie, I love this idea. I've seen all over the internet that the ladies make each other jewelry, they swap, and then put the photos and the artists' name on their site for exposure. I would love to do this, so please let me know if and when you gonna start this. Love the idea. Greetings, Lorraine

AnnMarie and Lorraine you may be interested in creating a group now that members can create groups. I need to approve it but sounds like a good idea.

Jeff,
Part of what Lorraine said above is true, but that is not the only part of a Traders/Swap group. As I said earlier, I had one for several mths. on another site, but was shut down because any mention of money is forbidden-very strict, I had 90 members in 3 mths. Now I have a Trade spot on my Artfire studio and will probably remove it because I also started a group strictly for this on my blog-talk about taking on too much-LOL. Besides swapping made pieces, which is more of a challenge, you have to come w something everyone agrees on, earrings, bracelets, etc. You can't have everyone making something different and trading and one persons piece can't be worth $5 and anothers $25, so that takes planning, but it is fun and who doesn't love a new piece of surprise jewelry.
What I am mainly doing is trading or swapping gemstones, cabachons, glass beads (high quality), Swarovski crystals, `bead soup' packs, lampwork, resin, polymere, NO PLASTIC, any good quality findings. You post pics of what you have, in the beginning I put a max of 5 products per person and a worth of no more than $20, since it is a group based on trust, and tho it has never happened, I do not want to see one party get their half and the other end not comply. You then tell what you are looking for, this can also include finished pieces. There are rules that need to be followed so whoever the moderator is knows everything is on the up and up. You have 10 days to make the trade, you are responsible for your own postage and if you don't follow thru you are out, period!
Sorry I went on and on, but that is the basis of how I have my groups. They are allot of fun, you get to meet allot of new people and receive some really cool pieces. I did 12 trade there and several times I got so much more than I bargained for, never dissapointed one time.
So if this sounds like something you would like to do a poll on, or as moderator just make the call, that would be great.
OK, am done yapping now-LOL.

Hi AnnMarie

Not sure if you voted but we just had a poll where the majority of members voted for member created groups, but moderated by myself. So no need for a vote.

If the Group was created I would not be involved other than making sure it conforms to what we are about, and that it doesn't become a venue for commercial promotion.

Someone like yourself would have to take on running the group, setting rules, etc etc.

I would allow the group as long as I see it as being of value to our members, focused, not already done, not commercial and so on. If you want to take it on I am certainly open to the suggestion. If it is too much to do then you can take on another administrator such as Lorraine if she wanted. As the Group creator that would be your call.

At all times, I am just concerned with value and suitability.

If you are interested let me know.

I had a heck of a time finding this! My name is Tara and I am AnnMarie's daughter. She asked that i try and find a Lorraine, who she just happened to get an email from today, stating she was going to check out this forum and see what Jeff had to say.
I am writing this because my Mother had another stroke early a.m. Sat. Ofcourse one of her first concerns are orders not yet mailed and the start of this group, not anything concerning herself!!!
I told her I would do my best to find the forum, and here I am, barring any further complications she should be home by Wed./Thurs. the latest, unfortunate;y it is her left side, so her hand is dead and she is left handed, bottom line is those already started orders are not going to be going anywhere fast! But I bet you she will be on here even if she is pecking with one finger the same day she gets home! So Lorraine, if you read this, I think she would like to see if you can ask or invite a few people you know here just to get it started. I know she once had a group like this and is setting up one on her blog, so I do know she has rules and guidlines, me, I am the most un crafty person in the world-LOL, since I was 5 she has tried to teach me just about any craft there is, started something in probably all of them and never finished a one! I did design gowns for a while, did mine and 3 girls prom dresses and went to F.I.T. in N.Y.C., but it was just too cut throat for me, I like it plain and simple-that is why I live in Ga., where I am back home to tomorrow. Thank you for listening to me, and even though I am not into it, there are sure some gorgeous pieces on here and some very talented artists.
Peace
Tara D.

Sounds good to me! Can we swap finished items for loose beads/gemstones and vice-versa?

That sounds good to me. What kind of things would be traded or swapped?

Are you looking to swap beading supplies or beadwork? I would be open to either so please count me in.

Dear AnnMarie,
I am very sorry to hear about your stroke. I do hope you'll feel better soon. You must take it easy for a while and rest. The swap can wait while you recover. Tara, if you read this, please, send me your mother's address (snail mail) and I'll send her something to cheer her up.
When you feel up to it, please, include me in your swaps. Thank you.
All the best,
Charlotte xxx

Ann Marie, I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery, and I'll pray for you. I love doing bead swaps (check out Beading Daily for the half-dozen swaps we have going ATM), both for loose beads and finished pieces. It's great fun, but we can definitely wait till you're on your feet again!
