How to upload photos

If you have not already read our Photo Guidelines I urge you to do so now.

We support .jpeg .gif and .png file types.

We currently have no limit on the number of photos you can upload, but there is a 10MB limit on size. However, I urge you to not upload photos anywhere near this size. They will be extremely slow to download for people to view. Optimize your files for viewing on the internet to reduce their file size.

Ensure your photos are at least in focus and clear enough for people to view details. A little dark or light is not a problem but people must be able to see your work.

The Add Photos link for adding photos will appear in a number of places - on the top-right of the Photos page, when you are looking at any members photos, when you go to My Photos and at the left below your My Photos box on your profile page. It even appears below the Photos displayed on the home page.

In all cases it opens a simple page for uploading photos. The uploader allows you to select the photo file on your computer and to then upload it. You can choose to upload several at once if you wish.

The normal uploader allows you to specify a Title, Description and Tags at the time of uploading.

You should always complete these details when you upload photos so they can be reviewed correctly for approval.

This method use the Quick Add option that is available at the top of the right-hand column just below the Settings link.

If you use this option you can't add the Title, Description and Tags before the photos are uploaded. As these are required for approval, and so we don't disapprove your photos, you have two choices -

1. When the Quick Add page appears don't specify the files there but  use the More Choices option to use the normal uploader where you can specify titles etc.
2. Use the Quick Add method  to upload you photos but IMMEDIATELY after that go to each of your photos pending approval and add the Title, Description and Tags. See below for how to do this. Obviously, there is a timing thing here. If you delay and we get to approve you photos before you do this they they will be declined. Because we try to approve as soon as possible we do recommend using the normal upload method.

You can edit and delete any photos that are 'awaiting approval'.

If we do choose to contact you about a photo and invite you to correct something this is how you can do that. Please be aware that we will not necessarily contact you and may just disapprove the photo.

When you go to your My Photos you will be able to see all your photos, including those awaiting approval. When you view the photo you will see it is 'awaiting approval' and all editing options will be available.

If you have uploaded photos awaiting approval and you go to My Photos but only see the uploader page, this is because you don't have any existing approved photos. Once you have at least one approved photo this will not happen.

If this happens click on the My Photos link above the uploader, or the My Photos item in the Photos sub menu, to see your photos awaiting approval.

Please be aware that the number you see next to the Photos link below your profile photo on your page is the number of approved photos only.
