Corchen the Snake Goddess

Most are probably familiar with the snake goddess of the Minoan people, an image that conjures up a seminude woman consorting with snakes. Corchen is an ancient Celtic goddess who also has an affinity for snakes. While a great deal of information is lost to the modern person, much can be speculated. Nude woman and snakes are not uncommon imagery and are thought to symbolized fertility. A serpentine line is invoked in this piece.

This is a stunning piece! The symbolism is very dramatic. Love the artistic and ancient world style of this design.

Fasinating piece and description. Thanx for sharing this piece. She almost looks like a "Sheila na gig" (SP) Is she?
