Hi jilly here is a link you may find interesting, it is a homemade photo lightbox made from a cardboard box, this may help your photos see this link. Hope this helps

For the tripod, are you using a full size one, then taking the picture from a few feet away, then cropping the picture and working with that? I find that if I take a close up either the camera won't focus (using auto) or the picture doesn't come out…
