I am inspired by other peoples' work. Perhaps limit each person to 6 at any one time? I have difficulty considering where I want it to go, just that I want to be able to see photos. What's the point, otherwise? Thanks for being here!

I agree, the yellow has to go. Let that cabochon stand out. Maybe the green at the far right, too. Show us when you finish, please! Skye

Hi Jen, I have a Mirrix loom, and would have seriously counseled you to begin with a small piece, with the threads rather widely set apart. I'm a long time weaver (it was my full-time business for ten years, and I loved weaving with fine yarns) and…

I turned from weaving to beading after 30 years, and I have not looked back. I began beading in November, 2006. I belong to the Harlequin Bead Circle, casually known as "bead and feed."
We meet every Tuesday afternoon at Harlequin Beads in Eugene, OR, from 3-6 pm. Harlequin is one of the finest beadstores I've ever enjoyed, and it's here in my own community.

just lost my mother

The dear soul was 94.5 years old, and it was time. So I'm filled with a mixture of relief, sadness, and an overwhelming sense of the mystery of life.

what does "being a friend" mean?

Hi,
What does being a friend on Beaders Showcase really mean? I have to be a bit careful of my time. I could LOSE myself here.

And how do I use tags?

Thanks to whoever responds.

Happy to have found this site

This fills a need. Glad to be here. Now have to make sure that it doesn't eat up too much of my time that could be spent beading!

What a good idea though, and it keeps all your lovely beads tidy as well. I'll have to have a look around the antiques shops see if I can find one.

I was just admiring the way you store all your beads in those drawers. Wish I could find one like it.

The galleries are a great idea, Barbara. I'll look into that when I get back home. I truly appreciate the lead.

We're coping well. Life flows on. Those events are now in the past. Life is simply different than it was. There are no promises, after all.

I do desktop publishing, specializing in long documents like magazines and books. Also 2-D AutoCAD drafting. I'm a detail nerd, obviously!

The eye is much much better. About 90%, I'd say. Actually, I didn't damage the eye itself, I damaged the facial nerve that controls blinking and focusing. I began a new heart and wings that is a commission today, and got the heart done without any problem using 13 Charlottes. I haven't tried the truly tiny beads yet, 18-24s.

Hi Skye,

What a tragic set of events has happened to you.

How are you coping with everything?

Can you still do beading with the damage to your
eye?

I was looking at your work. I really like your bracelet. Your work is very different then mine.
I do not have the patience to work with seed beads.
Although there are a lot of people that do.

What type of secular work do you do, or have you
done in the past?

There are plenty of Galleries and shops in Oregon that will take work. There is a city by city Art Gallery Guide listed on the Oregon Arts Commission
web site that lists all the Art Galleries in Oregon if you decide to sell your work in Art Galleries.

I sold my work in many galleries for years before I put up my own web site.

The Bush Barn in Salem was once a very easy place
and friendly place to get into for a new artist just
starting to sell.

Bush Barn is managed by the Salem Art Association. I sold my work there for years although they are under new management since I sold there.

How this helps a little.

Take care.

Kind Regards,
Barbara Hart

Hi Skye,
Yes, I do the bead embroidery on EZFelt, Pellon 70, or Lacey's Stiff Stuff and back it with ultra suede. Gives it a really nice finish. Your work is lovely. I especially like the winged pieces.

Hi Skye,

Thought I would introduce myself to you since we live so close to each other.

My name is Barbara Hart and I live in Albany Oregon. I started making jewelry 20 years ago.

I notice you are involved with the Harlequin Bead Circle and work with seed beads. You do very nice
work. Do you sell your work?

I work with pearls and gemstones. Had a bead shop here in Albany from 1995 until 2000. In
2000 I launced a web site. I managed the site and sold my work through the site until Dec. 2008.
I sold my site and all the jewelry showcased on the site in Dec..

I have also sold jewelry in Galleries and shops. Used to sell in Freed Gallery on the coast until I got my web site up.

Would like to hear from you.

Kind Regards,
Barbara Hart

Hi Skye, Great work! I was wondering what kind of loom you use? I see it on top of your storage cabinet. I haven't done any loom work yet but am thinking about it.

Hi Skye
Thanks for your compliments. As for the Glass pendants It started with a kit I purchased at Annie Howes site http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5262601 She sells kits to make these.I am always willing to try something new.. As for my cuffs I just stitch one of my patterns, and then I have purchased cuff blanks from the internet , Then I cover the inside with ultra suade and then stitch the bracelet to the top of the cuff thats about all there is to it.. If you want me to fill you in on the how to's let me know I would be happy to tell you.
